من أشهر مناطق الشمال هي طنجه وهي مدينه جميله ولايفصلها عن الشاطئ الاسباني سوى 18 كلم وهناك من يقول 14 كلم ، حيث يمكن مشاهدة الجنوب الاسباني بالمنظار من هضاب طنجه وهي قريبه من مالقه والجزيره الخضراء بالاندلس وكذلك فهى لاتبعد كثيرا عن جبل طارق ومن اشهر معالمها بقايا مسرح ساربنتيس ومغارة هرقل الفينيقيه....

و تتميز طنجة بكونها نقطة التقاء بين البحر الأبيض المتوسط من جهة، و بين القارة الأوروبية و القارة الإفريقية من جهة أخرى. هذه الوضعية الإستراتيجية الهامة مكنتها من الاستئثار باهتمام الإنسان، و جعلت منها محطة اتصال و عبور و تبادل الحضارات منذ آلاف السنين. مما تشهد عليه المواقع و البقايا الأثرية المتواجدة بطنجة و منطقتها، و المنتمية إلى حضارات ما قبل التاريخ و حضارات الفنيقيين و البونيقيين التي ربطت اسم طنجة في أساطيرها العريقة باسم " تينجيس " زوجة " آنتي " ابن" بوسايدون " إله البحر و " غايا " التي ترمزللأرض. ثم الفترة الرومانية التي خلالها أصبحت طنجة تتمتع بحق المواطنة الرومانية، بل من المحتمل جدا أن روما جعلت من طنجة عاصمة لموريتانيا الطنجية، المقاطعة الغربية لروما بشمال إفريقيا.


ومن ابناءها الرحالة العربي الكبير ابن بطوطة، وتعتبر طنجة أكبر مدينة مغربية في العهد الروماني، ومن يصل طنجة لابد وأن يزور مغارة هرقل، وهي مغارة كبيرة تطل على البحر الأبيض المتوسط، وقد سميت باسم هرقل الذي فر من الرومان واختبأ فيها.
